Hello,
Yesterday, I was delighted to attend a special ceremony that exhibited the power of philanthropy in action between our faculty and our students. Glenda Goodine, MD, assistant professor of family medicine, and Thomas J. Murphy, MD, assistant dean of Health Policy, Chief Medical Officer for Community Based Clinics, and the Stanley Family Distinguished Chair of Population Health and Community Medicine, presented the first annual Goodine Murphy Award to Kendall Kiser, a fourth-year McGovern Medical student.
This scholarship recognizes a student who exhibits success in the Family Medicine rotation and who additionally has an acute awareness of relevant issues and challenges in primary care delivery as currently experienced and those anticipated. Thank you to the Department of Family Medicine for its support of our students and of course to Dr. Goodine and Dr. Murphy for their generosity in creating a scholarship that not only supports our students’ career choice in primary care but also looks toward the future of primary medicine.
In addition to the academic consideration for this award, a 500 -1,000 word essay that discusses these primary care challenges is required. Essays are reviewed by a panel of Family Medicine faculty. Kendall, the first dual graduate of the School of Biomedical Informatics MD/MS degree, wrote a timely piece on health informatics. Please take a moment to read his essay.
Information regarding applications for the award in 2020 can be obtained at the Department of Family Medicine office.
Warm regards,
Barbara
