Hello,
We just celebrated the groundbreaking of the UTHealth Continuum of Care Campus, a new 240-bed psychiatric hospital and care center. When completed, this new facility being built adjacent to our UTHealth Harris County Psychiatric Center, in collaboration with the Texas State Health and Human Services Commission, will become the largest academic psychiatric hospital in the nation.
What a magical moment for UTHealth, for our Department of Psychiatry, for HCPC, and, most importantly, for the people we serve.
A special thank you to President Giuseppe Colasurdo, Dr. Jair Soares, Stephen Glazier, Lois Pierson, Dr. Melissa Allen, Kevin Dillon, Mike Tramonte, Scott Forbes, and Kara Crawford for all of their hard work in making this dream for our community a reality.
We were honored to be joined by a long list of special guests and friends of behavioral health. Dr. Courtney Phillips, Texas Health and Human Services executive commissioner; Mike Maples, Texas Health and Human Services Commission deputy executive commissioner; Fred Schuster, US Department of Health and Human Services director for our region; Representative John Zerwas, MD; Senator Borris Miles; and Senator Brandon Creighton each made comments from the podium. A special thank you to Dr. Louis Faillace, founding chair of our Department of Psychiatry, whose presence recalled how far we’ve come. We were delighted that Dr. Peter Pisters, president of MD Anderson, could attend. Dr. Pisters’ presence was a wonderful reminder that this day will go down in history as a milestone toward our goal of becoming the MD Anderson for behavioral health.

Warm regards,
