Hello,
During this time of crisis, our community has come together in remarkable ways. The dedication of our faculty, trainees, and staff to care for others is unwavering and inspiring. Our students have been remarkably adaptable during these complex and changing times. I am amazed by the resilience, the commitment to mission, the empathy, and the respect that has reigned during this pandemic.
As each of you are stretching the boundaries of flexibility and compassion, I want to assure you that you have the support of McGovern Medical School, UTHealth, UT Physicians, and our hospital partners. Your health and safety are always our top priority. During this crisis, new measures have been established to help you as this situation evolves.
Two weeks ago, a dedicated phone line for mental health support was created for all UTHealth staff – 713-486-COVD (2683). This allows quicker access to psychiatric care. Dr. Bobby Nix and Dr. Marsal Sanches have added time to their schedules specifically for our staff. Appointments made via this special phone number will be conducted via telemedicine.
Three times a week – Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, virtual meditation sessions are offered online.
Our Employee Assistance Program offers a wealth of online services, including fitness instruction, money management, and caregiver resources.
Employees and residents have access to MDLive through Blue Cross Blue Shield, which providers virtual psychiatric and counseling services with no copay for non-emergent services.
Just last week, Gov. Abbott announced a program from Care.com that supplements existing benefits for front-line UTHealth employees.
And, as a reminder, these mental health resources are always available:
Staff: Employee Assistance Program, 713-500-3327, 24/7 for crisis calls (no cost for EAP visits/tele-counseling and in-person sessions available)
Faculty: Faculty Assistance Program, 713-500-3880, 24/7 for crisis calls (no cost for EAP visits/tele-counseling and in-person sessions available)
Residents and Fellows: 713-500-3327, 24/7 for crisis calls (no cost for EAP visits/tele-counseling and in-person sessions available)
Students: Student Counseling Program and Psychiatric services 713-500-5171 and 24-hour crisis line
We want to hear what you need. As the pandemic continues, so will the needs. We are trying to be proactive in offering services for our students, trainees, and employees. Our EAP and Department of Psychiatry are collaborating on other services direct to physicians, residents, and fellows who are working on the front lines and are working in partnership with other counseling services, including the hospital chaplaincy. I applaud their cooperation, innovation, and kindness.
Thank you for your continued strength, dedication, and perseverance. Please remember to take care of yourself, your loved ones, and each other.
Warm regards,
Barbara
