Today is a national day of mourning—a day to remember and honor George Herbert Walker Bush, our 41st president and one of Houston’s most beloved citizens. President Bush will be remembered for his character, his patriotism, his lifelong commitment to public service, his devotion to family, his wit, his personal kindness, and fundamental decency—remembered for a life well lived.
George and Barbara Bush were an extraordinary couple—married for 73 years, devoted to their country, their family, and each other. They loved Texas, and loved Houston, and were friends to many in this community. Their impact on our city is immeasurable.
