Primary Teaching Hospitals

Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical CenterMemorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center is a full-service hospital of approximately 465 beds that provides care for a broad-based cross section of patients, including approximately 10% charity or non-funded patients. There is a new Women’s and Children’s Tower which houses a 36-bed labor-delivery-recovery-postpartum unit and intensive and basic nursery services and other pediatric services. There is an adjacent ward for gynecologic and postoperative patients. This hospital has an active Maternal Fetal Transfer service (> 200 per year) and is the tertiary helicopter transport center for the region. The daily census of antepartum (high risk) patients is usually 10–14. The center also has an active Antepartum Testing Unit that sees approximately 50–60 patients per week. Inpatient gynecology and day surgery units provide patient care for surgical and nonsurgical gynecology patients; there are two operating rooms dedicated to gynecologic surgery each day.

Lyndon Baines Johnson HospitalLyndon Baines Johnson Hospital is a busy public hospital that is operated by the Harris Health System, providing major medical services to the medically indigent population within the Harris County area. The hospital serves as a major referral center for complicated obstetric and gynecologic cases from across the city. The obstetrical service performs approximately 350 deliveries per month. A level III nursery is available to provide care to the tiniest of newborns. The Perinatal Testing Center does 400 ultrasounds per month and the Ob/Gyn referral clinic sees >100 patients per day. Each year approximately 700 major gyn cases are performed by residents. There is a modern teaching facility with classrooms, computer lab, and high-tech auditorium adjacent to the hospital. UTHealth Ob/Gyn faculty members directly oversee all patient care and have offices within the hospital buildings. The hospital is undergoing a major expansion project with a new state-of-the-art emergency center opening in 2011. A 4 story outpatient complex has been started adjacent to the hospital which will house all outpatient clinics and an outpatient surgery suite.

MD Anderson Cancer CenterMD Anderson Cancer Center is one of the premier cancer treatment centers in the world and is part of the University of Texas System. Residents gain exposure to the management of a wide array of gynecologic malignancies primarily at the PGY-3 level of training. This rotation also provides the opportunity to hone skills in the management of critically ill patients.
MHH SouthwestMemorial Hermann Hospital Southwest is a large community hospital with approximately 500 beds. Residents spend one month at this site at the PGY–3 level and perform gynecologic surgery, in a large, suburban, multicultural private practice setting.
MHH NorthwestMemorial Hermann Hospital Northwest is a large private hospital with approximately 400 beds. Residents rotate to this hospital for one month during the third year of residency. They participate in the surgical management and post-operative follow-up of gynecologic patients.
Mhh SugarlandMemorial Hermann Hospital Sugar Land is a modern private hospital with 79 beds and the latest equipment and technology. Residents rotate to this hospital for one month during the 4th year of residency, where they participate in the evaluation, surgical management and post-operative follow-up of gynecologic patients in a private practice setting.
Woodlands hospitalLocated in one of America’s fastest-growing communities, Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital is a nationally recognized, regional medical center offering a broad range of advanced care options close to home. This 294-bed, state-of-the-art facility features an accredited Level III trauma center.
Memorial City hospitalLocated in the heart of west Houston, Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center has 426 licensed hospital beds and boasts state-of-the-art facilities designed to enhance its nationally recognized healthcare services. The 33-story Memorial Hermann Tower includes Women’s Memorial Hermann and Children’s Memorial Hermann— Houston’s first dedicated women’s and children’s facilities outside of the Texas Medical Center.
