Dr. Fakhri Promoted to Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery

In recognition of his exemplary track record of clinical care, teaching and research, Samer Fakhri, MD, FACS, FRCS(C), has been promoted from associate professor to professor of otorhinolaryngology-head and neck surgery with tenure.

An internationally recognized rhinologist and a core member of the Texas Sinus Institute and Texas Skull Base Physicians, Dr. Fakhri is vice chair and residency program director in the department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at UTHealth Medical School. After receiving his medical degree at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, he completed his residency training at McGill University Health Center and pursued fellowship training in rhinology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He also completed a research fellowship in allergy and immunology at the Meakins-Christie Laboratories of McGill University.

Dr. Fakhri has been recognized with McGovern Medical School’s Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award for eight consecutive years and this year is a recipient of The University of Texas System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award, the Board of Regents’ highest honor. He has been named to the Best Doctors in America® list since 2010; in 2013 he was recognized as a Texas Super Doctor and named to Houstonia magazine’s inaugural listing of Top Doctors in Houston.

A fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the American Rhinologic Society, Dr. Fakhri serves on a number of national and international committees, including the education committee of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS), and contributes yearly instructional courses to AAO-HNS. He is on the editorial board and a reviewer for a number of otolaryngology journals and international funding organizations. A frequently invited national and international panelist and speaker, he has authored or co-authored numerous scientific articles and book chapters.

Dr. Fakhri’s areas of clinical interest include medical and surgical management of refractory chronic rhinosinusitis and sinonasal polyposis, endoscopic removal of benign and malignant sinus and nasal tumors, image-guided surgery, endoscopic lacrimal and orbital surgery, CSF leak repair and minimally invasive skull base surgery.
