Neti Pot

September 7, 2012

The Neti pot is a small kettle-shaped device for delivering salt water (saline) solutions to the nasal passages. It actually has its origins in the ritualistic techniques of Jala Neti, a method for cleansing the nasal passages for yoga.

To use a neti a pot, a person will lean forward and turn his or her head to one side. Then he or she places the spout of the neti pot at the upper nasal opening and gently pours the saline solution into the nose. It is important not to sniff; the flow of solution should be through gravity only. Then, he or she needs to turn his or head in the opposite direction and repeat the procedure.

It is important to use the correct amount of salt in the solution. Too much or too little can be harmful.
