Darin Tessier, M.D., M.S., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth).

Dr. Tessier specializes in Sports Medicine with a focus on the latest techniques in arthroscopy and treatment of sports-related injuries, as well as open and arthroscopic treatment of hip, knee, shoulder and elbow injuries. In addition, he is certified to treat cartilage injuries in the knee with articular cartilage implantation and meniscal transplantation.

Dr. Tessier is board certified in in orthopedic surgery and fellowship-trained in orthopedic sports medicine. Dr. Tessier’s research interest involves the evaluation and prevention of injuries in youth sports, as well as the treatment of adult injuries in the shoulder, elbow and knee, including cartilage and meniscal transplantation. Dr. Tessier also has a special interest in the emerging field of biological treatment options, including stem cells and growth factors associated with healing.

A native of Montana, Dr. Tessier earned his Bachelors degree from the University of Colorado. He got to Texas as quickly as he could and earned his masters degree from The university of Texas at Houston in Human and Molecular Genetics. This was soon followed by his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). He completed his internship and residency at UTHSCSA. He then completed an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship with James R. Andrews, M.D.,  E. Lyle Cain, M.D., Jeffrey Dugas, M.D., and Benton Emblom, M.D., at the American Sports Medicine Institute (ASMI). There he worked as an assistant team physician with the University of Alabama, the University of West Alabama, Jacksonville State University, the Birmingham Barons (AA affiliate of the Chicago White Sox), and multiple high schools throughout the Birmingham metro area.

Dr. Tessier is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons (ABOS),  holds memberships to American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Sports Medicine Fellowship Society (ASMFS), American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA).

Dr. Tessier and his wife, Natasha, have three Children:  Cade, Banks, and Sutton. He participates in wildlife habitat management and enjoys football, baseball, hunting, fishing and other outdoor recreational activities with his family.
