Pediatric nephrologist Joyce P Samuel, MD, MS recently published 2 high profile papers detailing her NIH sponsored research involving n-of-1 trials.

The first publication in Trials outlines the protocol she is using for pediatric patients with essential hypertension to identify optimal anti-hypertensive treatment.

The most recent publication in Pediatrics discusses in detail the risks and benefits of classifying n-of-1 trials as quality improvement studies since they are most often employed when there is treatment equipoise for a certain condition, such as pediatric essential hypertension.

Dr Samuel is currently funded by an NIH/CTSA K award for these research endeavors.
