Vineeth John rejoins the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences

Vineeth P. John, MD, MBA, has rejoined the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at McGovern Medical School as the vice-chair of Education, director of the Geriatric Psychiatry section and director of the Geriatric Psychiatry Unit at UTHealth Harris County Psychiatric Center.

“We are delighted to have Dr. Vineeth John rejoin our department as vice-chair for education and chief of the new Geriatric Psychiatry Section,” said Jair Soares, M.D., Ph.D., professor and Pat R. Rutherford, Jr., Chair in Psychiatry and executive director at HCPC. “Dr. John is a first-class educator and outstanding doctor – he is the perfect person to lead these areas of our department. We are indeed very fortunate to have him come back to UTHealth.”

John previously directed the General Adult Psychiatry Residency Program from 2010 to 2015 and received a Dean’s Teaching Award in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. He was a member of the Faculty Senate from 2010 to 2012 and is also a member of the UTHealth Consortium on Aging.

He rejoins McGovern Medical School from University of Rochester, where he served as associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and residency training co-director for the General Adult Psychiatry Residency Program. He also served as a member of the University of Rochester Medical School’s Wellness Initiative Strategic Planning Work group, the Clinical Competency Committee and Education Committee. In 2016, John was honored with a Dean’s Teaching Fellowship from University of Rochester.

He received his medical training from Christian Medical College in Vellore, India and completed his residency in general adult psychiatry at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital. John also has an M.B.A. degree from the University of Pittsburgh Katz School of Business.
