The 2019 Houston Mood Disorders Conference is going to be one we don’t forget for quite some time. In the week leading up to the conference, which is always the most stressful, tropical storm Imelda hit Houston with almost no warning. In fact, Imelda wasn’t an official “tropical storm” until it made landfall.

Some areas of our city received up to 40 inches of rain over three days. The worst day came Thursday, the day before the conference was set to begin. Many residents around the city left work early as the weather got progressively worse throughout the day.

Thankfully, the rain moved out Friday, and we were able to continue on with the conference as scheduled. Many attendees came from all areas of the country and even a few from Canada. In all, more than 200 people attended the conference.

Topics that were covered included depression in children and adults, behavioral therapy, bipolar depression, suicidality in children and adults, and innovative ways to treat depression.

A total of 18 speakers gave presentations at the conference. Attendees were able to have an open discussion with the speakers after they were done with their lecture.

Despite the nasty weather leading up, the 2019 Houston Mood Disorders conference was a complete success. We hope that you’ll join us next year for the 2020 conference, which is set for September 25 and 26, 2020.
