Dharmendra Kumar, MD, assistant professor of psychiatry and attending physician at TIRR Memorial Hermann, is one of the few psychiatrists in the country to be board certified as a Brain Injury Medicine specialist by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR). He is also board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Since joining TIRR Memorial Hermann in 2012, he has been an integral part of the medical staff, providing consultation services for psychiatry and behavioral medicine for patients who have suffered traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries or stroke. His other interests include studying intracranial pathology and the effects that aneurysms, brain tumors and other abnormalities have on patients’ behaviors.

Kumar earned his medical degree from Grant Medical College in Mumbai, India, and went on to complete his internship and residency in psychiatry at Louisiana State University (LSU) Health Sciences in Shreveport, LA. He is actively involved in spreading mental health awareness by serving as one of our NAMI Walk team captains and participating in various community groups. In addition, he has presented at national meetings and been published in several peer review journals.
