Biography

Elizabeth Thy Nguyen. M.D. has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences since 2015. She is also an attending physician at UTHealth Harris County Psychiatric Center (HCPC) where she works with an multidisciplinary team to treat acute psychiatric patients. Dr. Nguyen is a board certified adult psychiatrist with expertise in anxiety/OCD, bipolar disorder, depression, PTSD, schizophrenia and trauma. She believes in educating patients on their disorders to increase medication adherence and positive outcome. In addition, Dr. Nguyen enjoys teaching medical students and resident physicians.

Proficient in the Vietnamese language, Dr. Nguyen and former co-residents produced a popular TV series in Vietnamese on psychiatric disorders with the goal to educate the public on mental illnesses and decrease stigma in the Vietnamese community. She also co-hosts a monthly live radio show for Saigon Houston 900AM. Dr. Nguyen received her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and completed her psychiatry residency with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in 2014. She previously worked at The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD on the Mobile Crisis Outreach Team (MCOT).
