Kimberly Samuels, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, is a licensed psychologist with experience working with patients in the outpatient, residential, correctional, school, and inpatient settings. She has seen clients of all ages and currently provides psychological services to students at the UTHealth Student Counseling Clinic.

Samuels was trained with an emphasis on cognitive-behavioral techniques, but also relies heavily on relational-cultural and insight-oriented methods in session. She values strong therapeutic rapport, treatment flexibility, and focusing on client goals and strengths in her practice to facilitate patient growth and behavioral changes. Clinical interests include mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, and psychosis. Samuels is also skilled in family counseling, psychological assessment, and crisis intervention.
