When did you join UTHealth? What brought you here?
I actually began working with the UTHealth staff in February 1995 as a temporary worker for Harris Health – working with the midwifery staff as well as the department receptionist. As it turned out, an opening with UTHealth (as well as Harris County) opened up, and I chose the UTHealth position working with the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences.
Tell me about your work history here.
I had the privilege to work with several OB/GYN faculty as well as the Gyn Oncology group – assisting them with the opening of the Gyn Oncology clinic. I was then invited to join the Gyn Oncology Division in 1997 to work for the director at the Medical School, where I worked until July 2008.
I then transferred to the Department of Internal Medicine at LBJ in August 2008 to assist the chief of medicine (Dr. Bela Patel) with managing the Harris Health invoicing for UTHealth. I found my position here to be very challenging as it transitioned from administrative assistant to a much wider scope of responsibilities, including working as a liaison between Harris Health and our Internal Medicine divisions, coordinating all office needs for the divisions here at LBJ and coordinating the financial billing for UT physicians working at Harris Health facilities.
What are you most proud of accomplishing?
I am most proud of the working relationship that I have with the UT Division and Harris Health staff as it assists me in making the jobs of my docs go smoothly.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I am most appreciative of the way my docs all make me feel like an important part of their team – THEY ARE THE BEST!
Why have you stayed?
Because I LOVE my job and the docs I work with ?
When you are not at work, how do you spend your time?
When not at work, I love holding craft classes and all things crafts. I really appreciate being given the chance to say how much I love working at UT – it’s obviously been my favorite place to work!
