Department of Surgery Faculty Named Inaugural Champions of Learning Environment

In an effort to continue to enhance professionalism and encourage a positive learning environment, Directors of Learning Environment Vineeth John, MD, MBA, and John Riggs, MD, have announced 16 McGovern Medical School faculty as the inaugural Champions of Learning Environment.

Selected for upholding aspects of a positive and vibrant learning environment, the Champions of Learning Environment create opportunities to promote and encourage professionalism amongst all of their colleagues.

“Creating a positive learning environment is part and parcel of being faculty, and our faculty are doing a great job,” John said. “The Champions of Learning Environment are role models to our students, and we want to highlight them and the work that they do.”

Inaugural awardees of the Champions of Learning Environment for the Division of Surgery are Daniel Freet, MD and Saleem Khan, MD.

“Professionalism is important to us at McGovern Medical School,” John said. “These faculty bring out the best learning environment and inspire students. Research grants and educational awards are important, but equally important is how you enhance the quality of the learning environment.”
