“Ergonomics in the operating theater: Awareness and prevention of work related musculoskeletal disorders”

Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

  • Increase awareness of the burden of work-related musculoskeletal disorders
  • Identify the risk factors and ergonomic challenges in the operating room
  • Learn how to prevent WMSDs and set up an ergonomic friendly operating theater

Target Audience and Needs: Physicians, residents, fellows, and community physicians need to be regularly updated on advances in surgery, as well as the clinical activities in the Department of Surgery.

Educational Methods: Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, literature review, and panel discussions.

Activity Evaluation: Participants will be asked to complete a session evaluation.

Accreditation/Credit Designation: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of Baylor College of Medicine and The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
