Curtis J. Wray, M.D.
An only child who grew up in Kentucky and Ohio, Curtis Wray has an undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of Louisville and an MD from the University of Kentucky.
He was inspired by his soon-to-be wife’s father – himself a doctor – to pursue a medical career. Wray later trained at MD Anderson Cancer Center as a surgical oncologist. “In addition to finding operations challenging and rewarding, it was my first big exposure to research and such an intellectual, exploratory environment. And now I’m working in the best residency program in Texas.”
Wray, whose wife is Filipino, appreciates Houston’s culturally diverse environment, restaurant scene, and weather. “No more cold winters, and the people are very nice.” If he weren’t a surgeon, Wray would pursue a career in Formula One racing, as he loves to drive. “Or I might be a pilot. I like the combination of speed and height – two things that go well together.”
