Biography

Dr. Tamara Saunders was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She received her undergraduate degree at the University of Texas Austin. She then attended medical school in San Antonio at the University of Texas Health Science Center. She returned to Houston for her surgical internship and residency at the University of Texas Houston. Following residency she moved to Michigan where she had a busy surgical practice in the community of Jackson, Michigan. There, she performed both general and breast surgery and served as teaching faculty with Michigan State University, working closely training general surgery residents, medical students, and physician assistant students. In 2015, Dr. Saunders returned to McGovern Medical School as surgical faculty.

She maintains a surgical practice focused on breast disease in both the Harris County Health System and in the Memorial Hermann system. Dr. Saunders’ patient care philosophy focuses on patient-shared decision making, and integrating each breast cancer patient’s unique tumor biology to develop a personalized treatment plan.
