Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC)

The Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC), working with the Designated Institutional Official (DIO), oversees all ACGME-accredited programs under McGovern Medical School. Under the ACGME Institutional Requirements, the GMEC has responsibility for:

  • Ensuring compliance with Institutional, Common, and Program Requirements
  • Monitoring the quality of the learning and working environment across participating sites
  • Reviewing program performance, annual evaluations, and resident/fellow well-being
  • Approving required actions (e.g. new program applications, complement changes, changes in participating sites)

The GMEC also functions as a forum to address issues like clinical learning environments, recruitment, specialty choice, outcomes, and quality of life for trainees.

Membership:

  • DIO
  • Representative sample of Program Directors
  • At least two peer-selected residents/fellows
  • Quality improvement / patient safety officer or designee
