Benefits Overview
UTHealth Houston provides comprehensive benefits for residents and fellows, including:
- Medical insurance – UTHealth Houston provides UT Select Basic Coverage at NO cost to Residents or Fellows. Trainees may add spouse and/or dependent coverage at their own expense, including responsibility for deductibles and co-payments.
- Dental and vision – options available at employee rates.
- Basic life insurance – Residents and Fellows enrolled in the UT SELECT Medical plan are automatically provided with $50,000 Basic GTL coverage at no cost and without Evidence of Insurability (EOI). Additional Voluntary GTL coverage is available for the trainee, spouse, and/or dependents.
- Basic Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) – Basic AD&D insurance in the amount of $50,000 is included as part of the UT Basic Coverage package. Enrollment is automatic with no cost and no EOI required. Residents may also choose Voluntary AD&D coverage for themselves and eligible dependents.
- Disability coverage – Trainees are offered disability insurance as an optional insurance plan.
- UT FLEX (Flexible Spending Accounts) – Residents may enroll in UT FLEX, which allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars for eligible expenses. Options include a
- Health Care Reimbursement Account (HCRA) for qualified health expenses and a
- Dependent Care Reimbursement Account (DCRA) for eligible day care costs.
- Professional liability coverage: Residents and Fellows are covered under the UT System professional liability policy at no cost to the trainee
- Wellness Benefits– UTHealth provides Residents and Fellows with complimentary access to the UTHealth Recreation Center.
- Resident Parking – GME Resident Parking Program provides reduced parking contract access via payroll deduction for residents and fellows.
