Research Day

A Success in Innovation and Collaboration

The inaugural Harris Health and UTHealth Houston Research & Quality Improvement Day showcased diverse research aimed at enhancing patient care. This event brought together medical professionals, researchers, and leaders for a day dedicated to collaboration and education.

Not only did the event highlight innovative projects, but it also reinforced the partnership between UTHealth Houston and Harris Health, promoting innovation and improving patient care. Attendees enjoyed a variety of presentations that illustrated the ongoing research and initiatives shaping the future of healthcare.

Additionally, the event included an awards ceremony honoring exceptional research in three key categories:

Clinical Research

“Prospective Randomized Trial to Prevent Opioid Misuse through Safe Opioid Use Agreements” – Jonah Stulberg, MD

Translational Research 

“Sources of support and strain in Latino patients with advanced cancer and their family caregivers”- Larking Stong, PHD

Quality Improvement

“Leveraging Technology to Enhance the Mortality Review Process”- Hortincia Williams, RNresearch day

The award presentation was led by Dr. Ko, with a welcoming address from LBJ Administrator Trish Darnauer and remarks from Harris Health CEO Dr. Esmaeil Porsa. Other notable executives, including Dr. Steven Brass and Dr. Sandeep Markan, were also present. Dr. Andrea Caracostis attended as a special guest, representing the Harris Health Board of Directors. Her presence, along with that of many other distinguished guests, highlighted the significance of the event for the health system leadership.

Congratulations on the successful Harris Health and UTHealth Research and Quality Improvement Day! The turnout was impressive, and attendees thoroughly enjoyed exploring the outstanding posters and presentations. A big thank you to all the presenters for their impactful contributions.
