Retired MLB player shares message of good heart health after suffering congestive heart failure.

Jim Breazeale, a retired MLB player living in Houston, wants to spread the message of prioritizing your health.

Breazeale has had two heart attacks and is suffering Congestive Heart Failure.

“It was just getting to where I could walk a few feet then I had to rest.” He’s now an advocate for regular doctor visits and staying healthy. “You should start when you’re young, watching how much you drink, how much you eat, and what you eat. This is about 30 or 40 years that caught up with me.”

The 73-year-old now has a Left Ventricular Assist Device to help keep his heart pumping. He carries part of the device in a black crossbody bag. Professor and advanced heart failure cardiologist, Dr. Sriram Nathan, at UTHealth Houston Heart & Vascular and Memorial Hermann was one of the many physicians who helped treat Breazeale and performed his left ventricular assist device implantation procedure to help improve blood flow to his heart.
