Congratulations to the Heart & Vascular team members who participated in South Texas’ first procedure using the PASCAL Precision system for transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) to treat patients with degenerative mitral regurgitation. TEER approximates the anterior and posterior mitral valve leaflets by grasping them with a clipping device in an approach similar to the treatment developed in cardiac surgery called the Alfieri stitch.
This FDA approved system was based on the CLASP IID, a randomized controlled trial to directly compare two contemporary TEER therapies.
Congratulations to Dr. Richard Smalling, Dr. Abhijeet Dhoble, and the rest of the team on the case.
