Leading up to the holiday season, Gary and Anne Dellacroce put on their holiday gear as Mr. and Mrs. Clause – a tradition they’ve carried together for over 15 years.
But this year, their celebrations were slightly different.
One day Gary Dellacroce noticed that his fatigue was worsening, and he was using a walker just to walk from the chair to his bed in his home.
“I’ve slept in a recliner the last couple of years,” adds Mr. Dellacroce.
“If you find yourself sitting straight up at night because you can’t breathe laying flat because you feel like you’re drowning or if your legs have become like tree trunks because there’s so much fluid building up, none of that is normal. The sooner you can get ahead of these things the better,” says Dr. Brittany Owen, associate professor and interventional cardiologist at UTHealth Houston and Memorial Hermann.
Needing stents placed to improve blood flow, Dr. Salmain Arain, associate professor and interventional cardiologist at UTHealth Houston and Memorial Hermann, performed the surgery.
