Perfusion Machine

The Memorial Hermann Health System has recently acquired a new Quantum Spectrum Heart Lung machine, the first of its kind to be implemented in the health system’s operating room.

Among several benefits, the Quantum Perfusion System has a small footprint and encompasses multiple functions and safety features into one piece of equipment including vacuum-assisted venous drainage, ventilation system, blood gas tending, anesthetic scavenging and diagnostic monitoring making it a full perfusion system that is ultimately safer for patients and easier to use for the perfusionist.

The first case using the new Quantum Heart Lung machine within the Memorial Hermann system was performed on Feb. 17 by the Center for Advanced Cardiopulmonary Therapies and Transplantation’s Igor Gregoric, MD, professor and chair, Igor Banjac, senior director of perfusion services, and Mehmet Hakan Akay, MD, associate professor.
