Biography

Gustavo S. Oderich, MD, is focused on quality of care and optimal outcomes, based on the foundations of excellence in patient care, research and education. He is compassionate and dedicates extra time listening to the patients and their families, who are often facing serious vascular problems. He is known by his patients, families and trainees for his detailed drawings, which he elaborates at the time of consultation to explain to the patients and their families some of the intricacies of complex aortic repairs.

Dr. Oderich is professor of surgery, chief of vascular and endovascular surgery, director of the Aortic Center, and program director for the Advanced Endovascular Aortic Fellowship at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. Dr. Oderich joined the faculty in July 2020, after relocating from Minnesota, bringing over two decades of experience from his practice at the Mayo Clinic, where he practiced and served as immediate past Chair.

Dr. Oderich is a genuine academic surgeon who has become world-renowned for advancements in fenestrated and branched stent-graft technology to treat complex aortic aneurysms and dissections. He has contributed to many landmark publications and textbooks, and is highly involved in the education of residents, fellows and colleagues from the US and abroad.

Dr. Oderich believes in ‘mens sana in corpore sano’. He is a retired competitive sailor for the Brazilian team, who now focuses on regular running and fitness exercises. Most importantly, on his spare time he enjoys exploring Houston and spending time with his wife and two children.
