Biography

Jonathan Dawkins, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon with subspecialty training in sports medicine. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. 

Dr. Dawkins specializes in orthopedic sports medicine, focusing on arthroscopic and minimally invasive shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, foot, and ankle surgery. He provides nonoperative and operative care tailored to each patient, from athletes recovering from injuries to individuals managing degenerative conditions. He emphasizes restoring function, reducing pain, and helping patients return to the activities they love. 

His clinical interests span the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and foot and ankle. Across all regions of the body, he treats tendon ruptures, cartilage conditions, and fractures. Additionally, he specializes in shoulder instability, throwing shoulder and elbow injuries, hip labral pathology, snapping hip, and impingement syndromes, and a plethora of knee conditions, such as multi-ligamentous injuries, cartilage restoration, meniscus treatment, and patellofemoral instability. 

A graduate of Texas A&M University, Dr. Dawkins earned his medical degree with honors from Texas A&M Health Science Center. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas and fellowship training in orthopedic sports medicine at the University of Iowa. 

Dr. Dawkins is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He has cared for athletes at every level, including professional hockey players and collegiate athletes at the University of Iowa. He now serves as team physician for Bridgeland, Freeman, and Cy Park high schools in the Katy and Cypress communities. 

Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his wife, attending sporting events, hiking, traveling, and running. 

He is currently seeing and welcoming new patients at our Katy and Cypress clinics.

  • Shoulder: degenerative disorders, tendon ruptures, rotator cuff tears, throwing injuries, arthroscopic and open procedures for instability.
  • Elbow: cartilage and throwing injuries, UCL tears, tendon ruptures, epicondylitis, nerve compression, and arthritis.
  • Hip: arthroscopy for labral tears, femoroacetabular impingement, tendon injuries, and snapping hip syndrome.
  • Knee: ligament reconstruction, cartilage and osteochondral injuries, instability treatment, meniscus repair, multi-ligament injuries, arthritis requiring osteotomy or joint replacement.
  • Foot and ankle: ankle instability, Achilles tendon injuries, peroneal tendon pathology, fifth metatarsal fractures.
  • Comprehensive fracture care for upper and lower extremities.
