Biography

Dr. Andrew Burgess is a Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston the and Vice Chairman of Orthopedic Surgery. He also served as Former Chief of Orthopedic Trauma at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.

Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Burgess specializes in Orthopedic Trauma with an emphasis on the management of complex orthopedic injuries, limb reconstruction, and pelvis and lower extremity fractures and dislocations. He has been actively involved in the education and training of future trauma surgeons, holding teaching positions at esteemed institutions including Johns Hopkins University and Pennsylvania State College of Medicine before joining the faculty at McGovern Medical School.

Dr. Burgess received a B.A. from Hanover College. He then attended medical school and completed his residency at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York.  Dr. Burgess went on to complete two trauma fellowships, one at Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Centre at the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems in Baltimore, and then an AO fellowship at Kantonsspital in Chur, Switzerland.
