Biography

Dr. Surya N. Mundluru is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. He is part of the elite group of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeons in the UTHealth System.

Dr. Mundluru has successfully completed board certifications in both Internal Medicine and General Pediatrics before pursuing Orthopedic Surgery and Fellowship specialization in Pediatric Orthopedics.  He has successfully completed American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons Part 1 Certification.  His training experience has given a very unique perspective related to pediatric care.  His interests range from complex congenital malformations and limb reconstruction, early onset and adolescent spinal deformities, pediatric trauma, cerebral palsy, sports, and pediatric foot deformity.

Dr. Mundluru received his undergraduate degree and medical school education at the competitive 6 year combined B.A. and MD program at the University of Missouri Kansas-City.  While at UMKC, Dr. Mundluru was a NCAA Division I Tennis player representing the UMKC Kangaroos in both Singles and Doubles.

Dr. Mundluru started his journey in medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine and Department of Pediatrics at the prestigious Hospital of University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia training programs.  During his experiences there, he developed a love for pediatric orthopedic treatment and care and went on to pursue further training at NYU Langone Hospital for Joint Diseases in Orthopedic Surgery.  Dr. Mundluru then went on to complete the prestigious Dorothy and Bryant Edwards Fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedics and Scoliosis at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas.

Dr. Mundluru is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America where he serves on national committees.

His research interests include early onset scoliosis, pediatric trauma, limb deformity.  He has presented at a multitude of national meetings.
