Surya N. Mundluru, MD, MBA, FAAOS, is an associate professor and division chief of Neuromuscular Disorders and Cerebral Palsy in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston (external link). He serves as director of the Comprehensive Multidisciplinary Spasticity Clinic, founder and director of the Complex Musculoskeletal Clinic, and director of orthopedic surgery within the Pediatric Movement Disorder Clinic. He also serves as principal investigator and site director for the Cerebral Palsy Research Network at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital.
Dr. Mundluru specializes in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of children with cerebral palsy, neuromuscular disorders, spinal deformities and other complex orthopedic conditions. Through a multidisciplinary approach, he helps children improve mobility, function and quality of life.
Dr. Mundluru is triple board-certified in orthopedic surgery, pediatrics and internal medicine. He earned his medical degree through the highly selective six-year combined B.A./M.D. program at the University of Missouri–Kansas City. There, he graduated magna cum laude while competing as an NCAA Division I tennis player. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at NYU Langone Hospital for Joint Diseases. He then pursued advanced subspecialty training through the Dorothy and Bryant Edwards Fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedics and Scoliosis at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas. In addition, he earned a Master of Business Administration from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business.
Dr. Mundluru treats a broad range of pediatric orthopedic conditions. His clinical interests also include complex congenital malformations and limb reconstruction. He also specializes in early-onset scoliosis, adolescent spinal deformities and pediatric trauma. In addition, he treats pediatric sports injuries and foot and ankle deformities. As a result, he cares for patients with conditions ranging from common childhood injuries to complex musculoskeletal disorders.
Beyond patient care, Dr. Mundluru advances pediatric orthopedics through research, education and innovation. His academic interests include neuromuscular disorders, spinal deformity, pediatric trauma, limb reconstruction and the integration of generative artificial intelligence in medicine. He regularly presents his work at national and international scientific meetings. He remains committed to improving care through collaboration, innovation and evidence-based treatment.
