Dr. Yu Bai serves as the medical director of the UT Outreach Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory at the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, UT Medical School of Houston since 2008. With her 8 years of molecular PhD research training at the Vanderbilt University and molecular genetic pathology clinical subspecialty certification from UT Southwestern Medical Center, her clinical interest in the molecular diagnostics is to apply the advanced molecular techniques and knowledge into daily patient care. She has been developing molecular diagnostic assays to meet clinical needs.
Dr. Bai is the medical director for the Transfusion Medicine/Apheresis service at the Memorial Hermann Hospital at Texas Medical Center, one of the busiest trauma level1 centers with full services in trauma, cardiovascular surgery, neuroscience, orthopedics, women’s health, general surgery, emergency medicine and organ transplantation. Dr. Bai works closely with physicians and medical specialists from many specialty groups in the UT-Memorial Hermann system in blood utilization projects and studies by providing specialty expertise as well as laboratory support. She has also worked as co-investigator in multiple national tumor vaccine clinical trials utilizing the molecular bench research findings and advanced apheresis technology to improve survival in patients with late stage of malignancy.
Dr. Bai has been actively involved in the trainee education and career development for medical students, residents and fellows in transfusion medicine and clinical molecular diagnostics.
