Tiger of the Week: Surgeon Manish Shah ’02 Serves Children in Need on Trips to Haiti

Manish Shah ’02 likes to go where few pediatric neurosurgeons have gone before. After completing his residency at Washington University, he accepted a position at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth/Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital in 2014. There are only eight pediatric neurosurgeons in the Greater Houston area, according to Shah, which he says is a small number for a population of over 6 million. Shah also makes annual trips to Haiti, a country of almost 11 million with a handful of neurosurgeons and zero pediatric neurosurgeons, to perform endoscopic surgery on children with hydrocephalus, a condition in which fluid accumulates in the brain.
