The Department of Pediatric Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston brings together surgeons, scientists, research professionals, and multidisciplinary collaborators dedicated to improving the lives of children through discovery and innovation.

Our research spans the full spectrum of scientific investigation—from molecular and cellular discovery and preclinical laboratory studies to clinical trials, outcomes research, quality improvement, and multicenter research collaborations. By connecting scientific discovery with clinical expertise, we work to develop safer treatments, improve surgical outcomes, and advance the prevention and care of childhood injuries and diseases.

Department faculty have secured more than $20 million in research funding as principal investigators, co-investigators, and collaborators, supporting innovative programs in regenerative medicine, surgical quality and safety, evidence-based practice, translational science, and clinical research.
