What To Bring?(2018)

Packing list (details below):

·       REQUIRED: COSTUME!
·       Toiletries
·       Medications or personal items
·       Towels
·       Olympics outfit
·       Rain coat or poncho, if rainfall predicted
·       Pajamas
·       Outfit for workshops
·       Sleeping gear

1.) Costume! Everyone – and I mean everyone – dresses up for the costume party.  This includes faculty.  No costume = no party, and prizes are given out for the best costumes! This is a fantastic opportunity to show off your creative side, or just a good excuse to buy that movie/TV show character outfit you have always wanted!

2.) Toiletries and Towels: The usual: shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.

You will want to shower after the Olympics and perhaps after the costume party.  We recommend bringing at least 2 towels because your towels might not dry quickly due to Houston’s humidity.  We also recommend bringing a plastic or garbage bag to pack your towels when leaving Camp Allen in case they do not dry.

Bring any medications or personal items you might need – you will have access to bathrooms with showers, but you are responsible for your own toiletries, towels, and personal items.

3.) Clothing: The Olympics will involve all sorts of running around and getting sweaty, dirty, and possibly muddy.  Pack accordingly (tennis shoes, socks, workout clothing, sunscreen, sunglasses, etc.).  If rainfall is predicted, you may also want to throw in a rain coat or poncho.  You will wear your costume to the skits, dinner, and the party.  Finally, bring pajamas for the night and an outfit for the second day of workshops.  We will be sitting and talking much of the second day, followed by a bus ride back to school. You may wish to bring an extra pair of shoes or sandals, since it will be muddy at the Olympics (or for the showers).

4.) Sleeping Gear: Unless you booked a room at the hotel, we will all be sleeping in bunk beds at Camp Allen.  So, bring pajamas, a sleeping bag or sheets, and a pillow.  You may also wish to bring a personal fan– the rooms are “cooled”, but it still gets pretty hot.

On Packing: Please pack anything that you will not want to carry around camp with you on Friday in your suitcase and a garbage bag, which will be stored in the baggage area of the bus.  Please limit your packing to these two items.  Pack your sleeping bag and pillows in the garbage bag.  Label your suitcase and garbage bag using duct tape with your name written clearly.
