Biography

Dr. Vaibhav Wadhwa is an assistant professor in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at McGovern Medical School.  He also is an Interventional Endoscopist in the Center for Interventional Gastroenterology at UTHealth (iGUT). He earned his medical degree from Goa Medical College in Goa, India. He then completed his residency at Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio and his gastroenterology fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Florida in Weston, Florida.  He continued his medical education with an advanced therapeutic endoscopy fellowship at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Wadhwa, who is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology, has been in practice since 2014.  His primary clinical interests include pancreatobiliary interventions, third space endoscopy and endo-Hepatology. An avid researcher, his current research interests include pancreatic cancer screening, outcomes research, use of artificial intelligence in endoscopy and developmental and experimental endoscopy.  Dr. Wadhwa has been extensively published in the medical literature with over 35 papers in all major journals of gastroenterology, with his cumulative work been cited over 800 times worldwide.   Dr. Wadhwa has also been recognized for his research throughout his training when he was awarded first place during the Residency Research Day in 2017, as well as during the Research Week at Cleveland Clinic of Florida in 2018. Most recently, he received a scholarship from Harvard for an international observership in surgical and bariatric endoscopy at prestigious IRCAD institute in Strasbourg, France.

Dr. Wadhwa is an active member of numerous committees in American Gastroenterological Association, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and American College of Gastroenterology. He is also a reviewer for abstracts for both DDW and ACG and actively serves on the board of AAGIO (American Association of Gastroenterologists of Indian Origin). As an assistant professor, Dr. Wadhwa is responsible for teaching current fellows, residents, medical students and newly hired nurse practitioners rotating through the gastroenterology and interventional gastroenterology services. He also works closely with general gastroenterology fellows at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, Memorial Hermann-Greater Heights and LBJ Hospital to discuss management plans while performing gastroenterology procedures.

In his free time, Dr. Wadhwa likes to go on long drives, travel and explore new restaurants and places. He enjoys all sports and outdoor activities, as well as continuing to build a coin and stamp collection which he has been doing since childhood.
