The UT MSA Program is a 28-month program that begins in late August. The first year of the UTHealth Houston MSA Program is 12 months and 47 credit hours. Students are introduced to the concepts of anesthesiology including physiology, pharmacology, monitoring, airway instrumentation, and case-based vignettes in a didactic setting and simulation lab. Students will also obtain their Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
When students enter the second year in the program (semester 4), they will begin subspecialty clinical rotations while preparing for the certification exam offered by the National Commission for the Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants (NCCAA). The second year of the UTHealth Houston MSA Program is 12 months and 40 credit hours and the third year (semester 7) is 4 months and 13 credit hours.
Upon completing all 100 program credit hours and a minimum of 650 cases and 2,500 clinical hours, students are awarded a Master of Science degree in Anesthesia (MSA).
