Diego Gutnisky, a graduate student with the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, has been selected to receive the Presidents’ Research Scholarship.
Larry R. Kaiser, President of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), and John Mendelssohn, President of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, selected Gutnisky, along with 3 other students, to receive the honor. The Presidents’ Research Scholarship recognizes and rewards top post-candidacy students in UTHealth’s Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences for achieving distinction in biomedical research while enrolled at GSBS.
In addition to receiving a $5,000 award, Gutnisky will present a brief seminar on his research on “Adaptive Coding of Visual Information in Neural Populations” at the annual GSBS Presidents’ Research Scholars’ Symposium, to be held on Friday, January 23, 2009 at 11:30 AM in the GSBS’s large classroom (Room BSRB S3.8371) in the Mitchell Basic Sciences Building, 6767 Bertner, Houston, Texas. Lunch will be provided to the first 70 attendees.
