Bonnie P. Gregory, MD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston (external link). She is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic sports medicine surgeon. She specializes in advanced arthroscopic and open procedures of the shoulder, elbow, and knee.
Dr. Gregory provides comprehensive care for athletes and active individuals of all ages. She specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports-related injuries. Her expertise includes ACL tears, meniscus injuries, shoulder instability, rotator cuff injuries, cartilage injuries, and other conditions affecting the shoulder, elbow, and knee.
She develops individualized treatment plans based on each patient’s goals, activity level, and injury. Her approach combines evidence-based medicine with personalized care. She helps patients return safely to the activities they enjoy while reducing the risk of future injury.
Dr. Gregory sees patients at our Texas Medical Center and Bellaire office locations. She treats recreational athletes, high school and collegiate competitors, professional athletes, and active adults seeking expert orthopedic and sports medicine care.
A former varsity rower and Academic All-ACC honoree at Duke University, Gregory earned her undergraduate degree there. She later earned her medical degree from the University of Louisville. During medical school, she joined the Gold Humanism Honor Society. She completed her orthopedic surgery residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. She then completed a shoulder and sports medicine fellowship at Duke University.
In addition to caring for patients, she remains active in clinical research and education. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles and textbook chapters. She has also presented her work at national and international meetings.
Her commitment to athlete health extends beyond the clinic and operating room. Dr. Gregory serves as the lead orthopedic team physician for the Houston Rockets, Houston Dash, and Foster High School. She also serves as a team physician for the University of Houston. Her experience caring for elite athletes gives her unique insight into injury prevention, rehabilitation, performance optimization, and return-to-play decision-making.
A recognized leader in orthopedic sports medicine, Dr. Gregory completed the Feagin Leadership Program at Duke University. She also participated in the American Orthopaedic Association’s C. McCollister Evarts Resident Leadership Forum and Emerging Leaders Program. Most recently, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine selected her as one of its BOLD Playmakers. The prestigious two-year initiative develops emerging leaders in sports medicine.
