Biography

Dr. David R. Maldonado is an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.

Dr. Maldonado is a triple fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip arthroscopy, hip preservation surgery, and robotic-assisted hip replacement. His background includes Hip Arthroscopy/Preservation fellowship training at the American Hip Institute, Chicago-IL, under hip arthroscopist and reconstruction expert, Dr. Benjamin G. Domb. He has also completed a formal Sports Medicine fellowship, at Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute, Los Angeles-CA, with distinguished experts such as Dr. Neil ElAttrache. He expanded his training in joint replacement by completing an Adult Joint Reconstruction fellowship at UTHealth Houston. He is a recognized hip arthroscopy expert, with over 200 peer-reviewed publications in this field within top peer-reviewed journals, with numerous presentations at international academic meetings.

Dr. Maldonado is an experienced hip arthroscopy surgeon, and he performs cutting-edge techniques in hip arthroscopy to repair or reconstruct injuries such as labral tears, hip impingement, and gluteus medius tears. Further, he has vast experience in outpatient Robotic Hip Replacement and Hip Resurfacing using minimally invasive approaches.

Dr. Maldonado is a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS), the International Society of Hip Arthroscopy (ISHA), the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS).

He also serves as an Editorial Board member and Reviewer for the prestigious Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery, The American Journal of Sports Medicine, The Clinical Orthopaedic and Related Research Journal, The Journal of Hip Preservation Surgery, The Journal of The International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, The Journal of Arthroplasty, The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, and The Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Maldonado has treated collegiate, professional, and elite-level athletes, including players for the NFL, NBA, MLS, and MLB. Dr. Maldonado treats patients from across the country, and he takes pride in caring for every patient like a professional athlete.
