Biography
Dr. Matthew Weldon is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.
Dr. Weldon specializes in Sports Medicine with an emphasis on arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery of the shoulder, elbow, knee, and ankle. Through his training, Dr. Weldon has gained expertise in the latest and most advanced techniques for minimally invasive surgery and reconstructive treatments, as well as nonsurgical management and rehabilitation. Dr. Weldon has a special interest in joint preservation, focusing on limb alignment and correction. Additionally, he also performs joint replacement, encompassing the entire spectrum of joint disease.
Dr. Weldon received his undergraduate degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas where he was an All-Conference football player and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. He completed medical school at Ross University, graduating with Highest Honors. After completing an internship in general surgery at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas.
Dr. Weldon then completed his Orthopedic Surgery residency at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). Upon completion of training, he went on to complete an additional fellowship year of specialty training in Orthopedic Sports Medicine at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) where he was selected as the Administrative Fellow.
Dr. Weldon is ABOS Board Certified and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM). He has extensive hands-on experience in sports medicine treating high school, collegiate, professional, and recreational athletes. He has worked with the Houston Texans, Houston Rockets, Houston Astros, Houston Dynamo, Houston Dash, Houston Roughnecks, and the athletic teams at the University of Houston. Dr. Weldon is also currently the team physician for Bridgeland High School in Cypress, Texas and he participates in the care of many athletes at other local high schools as well.
