William C. McGarvey, MD, is a distinguished foot and ankle surgeon, professor, and vice chair of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. He also serves as Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program Director and Director of the Foot and Ankle Fellowship Program.
Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. McGarvey provides expert care in foot and ankle surgery, orthopedic trauma, and reconstructive techniques.
He earned his undergraduate degree from Temple University. He completed medical school at Thomas Jefferson University Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After graduating, he completed a General Surgery internship and an Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. The institution is known for its strong programs in sports medicine and trauma care.
Dr. McGarvey continued his training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. There, he completed a fellowship in Foot and Ankle Surgery, refining his skills in complex reconstruction, arthroscopy, and deformity correction.
He treats a wide range of foot and ankle conditions. His interests include ankle joint replacement, arthroscopic surgery, orthopedic trauma, sports medicine, and fracture care. He also specializes in the Ilizarov method of surgical correction. This technique supports limb lengthening, deformity correction, and the treatment of complex fractures.
Dr. McGarvey provides personalized, evidence-based care for athletes, trauma patients, and individuals with chronic foot and ankle disorders. His goal is always to restore mobility and improve long-term function.
In addition to his clinical practice, he contributes to several professional organizations. These include the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society. His dedication to education, research, and surgical innovation continues to shape the training of future orthopedic surgeons.
