Biography

Daniel Gonzales-Luna, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. He specializes in orthopedic trauma and treats complex musculoskeletal injuries of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, ankle, and foot. He also manages fracture nonunion and malunion, helping patients recover when injuries fail to heal correctly. In addition, he performs hip and knee replacement surgery for degenerative and post-traumatic arthritis. By combining trauma and reconstructive expertise, Dr. Gonzales-Luna delivers comprehensive care for patients facing challenging orthopedic conditions. He is fluent in English and Spanish, which allows him to connect with a wide range of patients.

A native Houstonian, Dr. Gonzales-Luna graduated as valedictorian of Lamar High School. He then attended Rice University, where he studied civil engineering and played NCAA Division I baseball as a four-year letter winner. Afterward, he pursued medicine at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. There, he graduated at the top of his class and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Following medical school, Dr. Gonzales-Luna remained at UTHealth for a five-year residency in orthopedic surgery. He then completed fellowship training in orthopedic trauma at the Reno Orthopedic Center in Nevada under Tim Bray, MD, and Peter Althausen, MD. His fellowship also included dedicated arthroplasty and pediatric trauma training, which broadened his skills across both adult and pediatric care.

Today, Dr. Gonzales-Luna is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association. These affiliations keep him engaged with new research and surgical advances. Outside work, he enjoys playing and following sports and values time with his wife and children.
