Biography
Hand surgeon James M. Saucedo, MD, MBA, specializes in treating injuries and conditions of the hand, wrist, and upper extremity at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. He focuses on hand and wrist fractures, dislocations, nerve compression, tendon disorders, and arthritis. A Houston-area native, he completed his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine, his orthopedic surgery residency at Northwestern University, and a Hand and Microvascular Surgery Fellowship at the University of Washington’s Harborview Medical Center.
Dr. Saucedo’s clinical expertise includes complex hand and wrist fractures, sports-related injuries, and soft-tissue trauma involving tendons, nerves, and ligaments. He also cares for patients with carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, de Quervain’s tendonitis, tennis elbow, thumb arthritis, and chronic wrist pain. His goal is simple: relieve pain, restore mobility, and help patients return to work, daily activities, and the hobbies they enjoy.
He emphasizes patient-centered care and clear communication. Whenever possible, he recommends nonoperative treatments that ease symptoms and support recovery. When surgery offers the best outcome, he uses advanced, evidence-based techniques to ensure precise treatment and faster healing. As a hand and wrist specialist serving the Houston community, he provides comprehensive care for both acute injuries and chronic conditions.
Dr. Saucedo also has an interest in improving healthcare delivery and earned an MBA at Rice University to support patient access and system innovation. Before joining UTHealth Houston, he practiced in San Antonio, where he cared for veterans at the Audie Murphy VA Hospital and trained residents and fellows. He lives in The Woodlands with his family and enjoys teaching, music, and coffee roasting.
He sees patients at two convenient locations: The Woodlands and the Texas Medical Center. Click here to make an appointment.
