Shrina K. Parikh, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic hand and upper extremity surgeon and assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston (external link). She specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions of the hand, wrist, forearm, and elbow.
Dr. Parikh treats carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, De Quervain’s tenosynovitis, and arthritis of the hand and wrist. She also cares for acute injuries and fractures of the hand, wrist and forearm. In addition, her expertise includes tendon, nerve and blood vessel injuries.
Her areas of specialization include minimally invasive, endoscopic, arthroscopic and microsurgical techniques.
Dr. Parikh tailors treatment to each patient’s condition, needs, and goals, considering both surgical and nonsurgical options. When surgery is not the optimal option, she recommends nonsurgical treatment designed to achieve the best possible outcome.
Ultimately, her goal is to restore function and help patients return to the activities that matter to them, including sports, hobbies, work, and everyday activities.
Beyond patient care, Dr. Parikh enjoys working with medical students and is committed to mentoring and advising the next generation of physicians.
Dr. Parikh graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M University. She then earned her medical degree from McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.
She remained at UTHealth Houston to complete her orthopedic surgery residency before pursuing a fellowship in hand surgery at the Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center.
During her fellowship, Dr. Parikh trained with hand surgeons from both orthopedic and plastic surgery backgrounds. As a result, she gained exposure to complementary approaches to hand and upper extremity surgery.
Outside of medicine, she enjoys traveling, crafting, spending time with friends and family, and exploring Houston’s food and drink scene.
