Biography

Alfred A. Mansour III, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and nationally recognized leader in pediatric orthopedic surgery, pediatric sports medicine, and hip preservation. A Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, Dr. Mansour serves as both Director of the Comprehensive Hip Preservation Program and Director of Pediatric Orthopedics. His clinical interests include hip dysplasia, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), periacetabular osteotomy, patellar instability, osteochondritis dissecans (OCD), ACL ruptures, knee and hip cartilage injuries, and growth plate and pediatric fracture management.

Dr. Mansour brings elite-level sports medicine experience to his clinical practice, having served as Team Physician for the NBA’s Houston Rockets for seven years and currently serving as Team Physician for the NFL’s Houston Texans Football Club. This unique background as both a high-level athlete and team physician positions him to provide personalized, expert care to pediatric and adolescent athletes with sports-related injuries.

He is American Board of Orthopedic Surgery certified and completed dual fellowships in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery and Orthopedic Sports Medicine. His fellowship training at Children’s Hospital Colorado and the prestigious Steadman Hawkins Clinic – Denver emphasized advanced hip preservation techniques, including both arthroscopic and open procedures. Dr. Mansour is one of only a few surgeons nationally who routinely perform both arthroscopy and periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) for complex adolescent and young adult hip pathology.

A former seven-time NCAA All-American swimmer at Texas A&M University and finalist for NCAA National Scholar Athlete of the Year, Dr. Mansour combines firsthand athletic experience with clinical expertise to deliver innovative and compassionate care. He earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center and completed his residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Dr. Mansour is a respected member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), and the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America (POSNA), where he contributes to several national committees. He is consistently recognized as one of Houston’s and Texas’s “Top Doctors” in Pediatric Orthopedics and Sports Medicine by Houstonia and H-Texas magazines.

Dr. Mansour’s research focuses on deformity correction in sports medicine, hip preservation in adolescents and young adults, and complex knee alignment procedures such as osteotomies. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed orthopedic journals and is a frequent invited lecturer at national conferences on topics ranging from pediatric trauma to hip preservation surgery and sports knee alignment.
