Alfred A. Mansour III, MD, is a board-certified, dual fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon and professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at UTHealth Houston. He serves as director of pediatric orthopedics and leads the Comprehensive Hip Preservation Program. Additionally, he is a team physician for the Houston Texans and Texas A&M athletics and a consultant for the Houston Rockets.
Dr. Mansour specializes in hip preservation and pediatric orthopedic sports medicine, treating children, adolescents, and active adults. In addition, he is one of only a handful of surgeons nationally who employ both arthroscopic and open surgical techniques. These include periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) to treat complex hip conditions such as femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) and hip dysplasia. He is nationally recognized for his work in hip preservation surgery and is also a leader in acute corrective osteotomies of the femur and tibia. In particular, he treats athletic patients who require alignment correction for cartilage, meniscus and ligament injuries.
Beyond hip preservation, Dr. Mansour treats fractures and growth plate injuries of the extremities. He also manages patellar instability, osteochondritis dissecans (OCD), ACL ruptures, and cartilage injuries of the hip and knee. He has advanced training in orthopedic sports medicine and pediatric orthopedic surgery, with an emphasis on hip preservation. As a result, his practice focuses on youth sports medicine and hip preservation in children and young adults.
Dr. Mansour is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He completed fellowship training in orthopedic sports medicine at UCHealth Steadman Hawkins Clinic – Denver and pediatric orthopedic surgery at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Through this training, he further developed his subspecialized expertise in youth sports medicine and hip preservation.
His research focuses on deformity correction in sports medicine, hip preservation in adolescents and young adults, and knee alignment procedures. In addition, he has published in peer-reviewed orthopedic journals and presents nationally on pediatric trauma, hip preservation, and sports-related knee conditions.
Dr. Mansour currently leads the Walter R. Lowe Knee Registry, a collaborative orthopedic research initiative between UTHealth Houston Orthopedics and Memorial Hermann. The registry advances research in ACL reconstruction and knee surgery outcomes through structured data collection and functional performance testing. Under his leadership, it has grown into a scalable platform that supports evidence-based orthopedic care. You can click here to learn more about the registry and its recent milestone.
In addition to his clinical and academic work, Dr. Mansour is a seven-time NCAA All-American swimmer and a finalist for the NCAA National Scholar Athlete of the Year. Because of this background, he brings a unique perspective to caring for high-level athletes of all ages.
