Candice B. Teunis, MD, is a board-certified hand surgeon and assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. Dr. Teunis’s clinical interests include hand and upper extremity surgery and reconstructive hand microsurgery. Specifically, she treats hand and wrist fractures, tendon and nerve injuries, arthritis, and carpal tunnel syndrome. She also manages cubital tunnel syndrome, nerve compression syndromes, and complex upper-extremity trauma. Furthermore, she cares for both acute injuries and chronic conditions that cause pain, numbness, weakness, or limited motion. Because of her advanced training in reconstructive microsurgery, she performs delicate procedures to repair nerves, blood vessels, and soft tissues. Dr. Teunis earned her undergraduate degree from Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey. She then attended Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. After medical school, she completed her Orthopedic Surgery residency at the University of Utah and Affiliated Hospitals. She later pursued a Hand Surgery fellowship at the Hand Center of San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas. There, she refined her expertise in advanced hand and upper extremity procedures.
