Kyle R. Woerner, MD, is an associate professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. He is a fellowship-trained hand and upper extremity surgeon specializing in conditions of the hand, wrist, and elbow. Dr. Woerner sees patients at our locations in the Texas Medical Center and Bellaire, providing convenient access to expert hand and upper extremity care in Houston.
Dr. Woerner treats a wide range of upper extremity conditions, including hand fractures, dislocations, tendon injuries, nerve injuries, arthritis, and hand sports-related injuries. In addition, he provides advanced care for complex hand and upper extremity trauma. Whenever possible, he emphasizes non-operative treatment to relieve pain, restore strength, and improve function. However, when surgery is necessary, he offers arthroscopic and minimally invasive techniques designed to reduce recovery time and support optimal outcomes.
A Texas native, Dr. Woerner earned his undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University in College Station. He then attended McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, where he also completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery. During residency, he received multiple honors, including the Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award and the Arthur Jansa Courage to Lead Award. Notably, he was the only resident selected for the Benjy Brooks Outstanding Clinical Faculty Award.
Dr. Woerner completed his fellowship training in hand surgery at the prestigious Philadelphia Hand Center, where he trained under renowned hand surgeon Dr. A. Lee Osterman. There, he gained extensive experience in complex hand, wrist, and elbow surgery.
