Hand Fellowship
The Hand Surgery Fellowship at UTHealth Houston offers a comprehensive and well-rounded training experience in the management of conditions affecting the hand and upper extremity. Fellows will gain exposure to a wide variety of cases, from severe trauma at one of the busiest Level 1 Trauma Centers in the United States to routine and rare conditions treated in high-volume community practices.
The fellowship’s structured didactic curriculum integrates journal clubs and topic-based lectures, enabling Fellows to review foundational literature and understand its relevance to modern practice. Fellows also participate in cadaver labs, case conferences, and informal journal clubs, and they have access to research opportunities ranging from basic science to clinical studies. Additionally, the program incorporates practice management training during community rotations and within the didactic schedule.
The UTHealth Houston Hand Surgery Fellowship provides a strong foundation for careers in both academic and private practice. It emphasizes mentorship, personal and professional growth, and the development of leadership skills. Beyond technical expertise, the program fosters intellectual curiosity, humility, and a commitment to serving patients, colleagues, and communities. Through this comprehensive training, Fellows will not only refine their surgical skills and judgment but also gain the tools to become surgeon leaders capable of making a meaningful impact wherever they practice.
Through mentorship and an emphasis on personal and professional development, we intend to do more than just help our Fellows develop sound surgical skills, judgment and acumen – we aim to create surgeon leaders.
