Masters in PathA Admissions
Applicants must be United States citizens or permanent residents and must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required. The Graduate Record Examination is not required for application or admission. Additional program information can be found in the UTHealth Houston Academic Catalog (external link)
Prerequisite Courses
The following prerequisite courses must be completed at a regionally accredited institution before matriculation:
- Eight credit hours of Biology I and II with laboratories
- Eight credit hours of Chemistry I and II with laboratories
- Three credit hours of Human Anatomy
- Three credit hours of English Composition or a comparable course
- Three credit hours of Algebra or a higher-level mathematics course
Course substitutions are not considered.
Pathologists’ Assistant Shadowing
Surgical pathology shadowing is required as part of the application process. Although the program does not specify a minimum number of hours, the experience should provide applicants with a comprehensive understanding of the Pathologists’ Assistant profession.
Applicants should be prepared to clearly explain the roles and responsibilities of a Pathologists’ Assistant based on their shadowing experience.
Application Process
The application period is open from October 1 through February 1 for classes beginning in August. Applications must be submitted through the Centralized Application Service for Advancing Health Professionals. (external link)
Required application materials include:
- Résumé or curriculum vitae
- Official transcripts
- Three letters of recommendation
- A short essay describing the role of a Pathologists’ Assistant
Interviews and Acceptance
Program interviews are conducted between February and May. Competitive applicants will receive interview information by email from the PathA Admissions Committee.
The interview evaluates qualities important to professional practice, including interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, professionalism, adaptability, communication, and the ability to work effectively in collaborative environments.
Acceptance is contingent upon completion of any outstanding prerequisites, required immunization screening, and clearance of a mandatory criminal background check.
