Biography

Dr. Kumar Pallav is a distinguished physician with a rich and diverse background. Throughout his career, Dr Pallav has shown an unwavering commitment to patient care, research, and education.

Dr. Pallav earned his medical diploma at Kasturba Medical College in India. Following his early education, Dr. Pallav completed his Internal Medicine residency at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn in 2010. During this time, he laid the foundation for his medical expertise and honed his skills in patient care. Dr. Pallav furthered his knowledge and experience with a clinical and research fellowship at the prestigious Harvard University in Boston between 2010 and 2012. This experience proved transformative, providing him with the insights and expertise that would define his career.

Dr. Pallav’s dedication to specialization led him to focus on Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He underwent rigorous fellowship training at the University of Mississippi Medical Center from 2012 to 2015. He also completed a traveling fellowship centered on gastrointestinal motility during this period. He made significant contributions during his tenure as an Assistant Professor from 2015 to 2020 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he played a pivotal role in establishing the GI motility service, making a lasting impact on patient care.

In 2020, Dr. Pallav embarked on an advanced endoscopy fellowship at the Parkview Cancer Institute in Fort Wayne, IN, which he completed in April 2021. Following this, he assumed the position of Assistant Professor within the GI division at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Notably, Dr. Pallav spearheaded the expansion of the pancreaticobiliary and advanced endoscopy services at their League City campus, thereby bringing vital expertise and innovative treatments to this patient population, further cementing his reputation as a leader in the field.

Today, Dr. Pallav holds the esteemed Associate Professor in Gastroenterology position at UTHealth Houston Gastroenterology. His primary and foremost area of expertise lies in the dynamic and rapidly evolving advanced or therapeutic endoscopy field. Within this realm, he specializes in employing sophisticated, minimally invasive endoscopic procedures to address conditions that traditionally necessitate surgical interventions, providing patients with less invasive and more effective treatments.

In addition to his dedication to advanced endoscopy, Dr. Pallav’s professional interests span a broad spectrum of gastroenterological and pancreato-biliary disorders, both benign and malignant. He is deeply committed to the prevention of colorectal cancer, a critical aspect of gastroenterological care. Moreover, he strives for excellence in endoscopy practices, continually enhancing the quality of procedures and patient outcomes ensuring patients receive the best care possible.

Dr. Pallav’s dedication to research is exemplified by his extensive publication record in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals, with his work being cited by other authors more than 1100 times. His contributions to the field have not only advanced medical knowledge but have also guided and influenced the work of other medical professionals. Dr. Pallav has generously shared his expertise as an ad hoc peer reviewer numerous times and as an Editorial Board Member for prestigious publications, including VideoGIE, World Journal of Hepatology, and World Journal of Gastrointestinal Pathophysiology.
